Titan Ties thick core (TC) helical remedial wall ties have an increased diameter (9mm) and are intended for heavy duty remedial applications including acting as lateral restraint ties or as retrofit wall ties where longer diameters / larger cavity sizes are needed. The are sold as either loose ties or in kits (with a standard two-piece fixing tool and drill bit)
 
The increased diameter makes the remedial helical wall ties less resistant to bending and hence more stable over larger lengths.
 
This system is suitable for lateral restraint applications such as restraining bowing or bulging brickwork. For this system to work the timber joists must span onto the bulging / bowing masonry wall in question; ie and a fixing into joist ends is required.
 
This product is not suitable when the joists span parallel to the wall- for a suitable system click here for details for our threaded bar lateral restraint system.

For restraining bulging / bowing walls into joist ends
 
For heavy duty retrofit / remedial wall tie applications or where cavity sizes are larger
 
Helical Ties are fitted from outside the property with a minimum of disturbance in most cases For lateral restraints, just lift a few floorboards to determine the position of the joists and to ensure hidden wires or pipes are avoided during the installation

Other Info:
 
SDS+ Drill Bits (for forming the pilot hole) are supplied as part of the kit- We sell 5.5mm diameter for 170mm-270mm ties and 6mm diameter for tie lengths of 300mm upwards. We can supply other diameters on request.
 
Helical ties must have a minimum embedment in the inner (load bearing) leaf of 70mm
 
We recommend that you test the strength of substrate before choosing the appropriate drill hole
 
Above table assumes that facing brickwork is 110mm wide imperial brickwork (make adjustment for small widths / 100mm metric bricks).
 
Helical retrofit wall ties should be fixed into the centre of bricks- not mortar joints. The masonry should be sound.
 
House covered in render / pebble dash? Consider resin ties if mortar joints are not visible or there are concerns about masonry condition.
 
Grade 304 (A2) ties are sold as standard- consider Grade 316 (A4) in highly corrosive areas such as marine locations or heavily polluted industrial environments. 
 
Wall ties being replaced should be removed or isolated.
